Christmas concerts mark 10 years

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the highly anticipated perfromances return on both 16 and 17 December bringing festive cheer to audiences with two evenings of seasonal classics.

This year’s performers will be accompanied by the renowned Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra under the baton of conductor John O’Brien.

Performing over the two nights are soprano Majella Cullagh, songwriter and musician Niall McCabe, tenor Ross Scanlon, jazz legend Karen Underwood, and the dynamic Precious Abimbola, who recently starred in the Cork Opera House's ‘Summer Revels!’. MC for the concerts will be Declan Wolfe.

This year's shows are the tenth anniversary since CEO Eibhlin Gleeson and O'Brien introduced the popular concert in 2014.

“It is both our busiest and favourite time of year at Cork Opera House and once again it is a huge pleasure to share Christmas with our patrons through our beloved Christmas Concert,” said Ms Gleeson said.

“It’s a concert where we get to showcase some of the amazing artists that we work alongside throughout the year, with a special festive feeling.

“From national and internationally known artists to young emerging talents from Cork, it’s an evening filled with magic and Christmas wonder. We would also like to give a warm welcome to our new sponsors for the concerts, The Pavilion Ballygarvan,” she added.

This year’s concerts promise a feast for the ears, with the Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra providing sweeping orchestral arrangements that will fill the venue with holiday magic.

Working with beautiful arrangements, the orchestra promises to elevate the festive mood with uplifting renditions of classic Christmas carols and orchestral masterpieces.

In addition to the star-studded line-up, Indie Choir will join the Glasheen Girls School Choir and the Cork Garda Male Voice Choir as special guests for the concerts, offering a perfect opportunity for families and friends to come together and experience the joy and warmth of the holiday season in a truly special setting.

Tickets for both concerts are on sale at Cork Opera House Box Office and online at corkoperahouse.ie.
