Man escapes abduction

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an alleged assault and abduction in Douglas which saw a man attacked and taken from his home.

The assault took place early at a residence in the Maryborough Hill area in the early hours of Sunday 17 November, at approximately 2.30am.

Gardaí say the man, who is in his 20s, was first assaulted in his Douglas home, before being forced into a vehicle, abducted, and driven to Curraheen Park in Bishopstown.

However, before the vehicle reached its unknown destination, the driver crashed, leaving the victim - who had sustained injuries - with the opportunity to make his successful escape.

Gardaí attended the scene of the crash, while the victim was taken to Cork University Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí have made an appeal to anyone who was travelling in the Maryborough Hill, Douglas area between 2.30am and 3am on 17 November to contact the investigating gardaí.

Additionally, a similar request has been made regarding anyone who was travelling in the Curraheen Park Bishopstown area, or between the site of the incidents. Gardaí have also requested that either drivers or pedestrians who had been using dash cams or other recording devices in the area make their footage available.
