Search carried out under warrant by gardaí in Youghal
As part of ongoing investigations targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the region, gardaí from the Cork County Divisional Drugs Unit said they carried out a search under warrant of a residence in Youghal on Saturday 16 November. During the search gardaí seized suspected cannabis and amphetamine with an estimated total value of €35,000. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “A quantity of cash and paraphernalia suspected of being used in the preparation of drugs for sale and supply were also seized.
“All substances seized are subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.” A man (30s) was arrested at the scene and was detained at a garda station in Cork under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Investigations are ongoing.
This seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021. “The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs,” added the spokesperson.
