Let the festive parties begin

Nothing gets me quite so inspired as styling a photoshoot and I've recently gotten into the party spirit after styling the Opera Lane partywear campaign.

Not that I need much of a nudge in the direction of a party. This time of year can be overwhelming with various Christmas parties, family gatherings and festive catch ups with friends.

You don’t want to spend a fortune on something new, but you also made need a little bit of a partywear refresh. I like to pick up bits here and there and always make sure that each piece is timeless, ensuring I can wear it year after year.

I know it may sound boring, but you cannot underestimate the power of a little black dress.

I have spotted a black mini in H&M that looks cute from the front but has the most gorgeous back detail.

Think a deep V at the back with a bow. It’s partywear perfection.

It’s essential you get your accessories right with a dress like this and I’ve added a burgundy, velvet heel, super statement silver earrings and a maribou feather bag which gives a sort of modern take on a 1960s silhouette.

If you want something with a bit more colour you won’t go wrong with a red dress and again I’ve spotted a fab one in H&M. It’s a short shift dress so a flattering shape and a slight shoulder pad brings a bit of drama to proceedings. Style with silver and diamante for a great party look.

If you like a bit of texture then this is the season for you with lots of beautiful, rich green velvet pieces around.

Next have a gorgeous green velvet suit that you’ll have in your wardrobe forever, add some jewel tone accessories to really bring the glamour.

River Island also have a deep green velvet jumpsuit with a halter neck style. The neckline features a thick gold chain tie and it’s these details that give the look a very ‘70s Studio 54 vibe.

Pair with a brown faux fur to complete the look.

I’m also very taken with a metallic look and a silver metallic dress is perfect if you want a party look that requires very little styling. Let the sparkle and shine take centre stage and pair with a simple black heel and drop earring.

I couldn’t talk about party looks without of course mentioning sequins which appear year after year and are now creeping into every day wear all year round.

I like to have a fabulous sequin dress and skirt in my wardrobe, and this ensures I always have something to wear for last minute invites.

A loose-fitting sequin mini is so easy to style and just requires heels and some earrings or wear with barely black tights and some cute Mary Janes. No heels is always a bonus.

I also love pairing a sequin skirt with a sparkly Christmas jumper and you simply must check out the Nephthys Illustrated x River Island collaboration which is now instore. Featuring glorious embellishments and cute slogans, they elevate the Christmas jumper and look great styled with a white sequin skirt.

I might just have treated myself to the green ‘Champagne Season’ knit. ‘Tis the season after all.
