‘My Community’ by Philippa Costello.

A bright start to next year

Two Cork children have created some wonderful art which will feature in a calendar next year.

‘My Community’ by 10 year old Philippa Costello, from Watergrasshill National School, will appear during the month of January and ‘My House’ by 14 year old Darragh Woods, from Coláiste Choilm, Ballincollig, features throughout the month of February.

Winning second prize in the 9-11 year age category of this year’s 70th competition, Philippa’s artwork was described by Final Adjudicator Gary Granville, Professor Emeritus of Education at the National College of Art and Design, as “an abstract work, through an unusual lens, in which her mapping of her community is both delightful and insightful”.

A Special Merit Award winner this year, Darragh’s work was commended by the adjudication panel as “demonstrating high levels of skill and imagination”.

Their prizewinning artworks have been chosen to illustrate the 2025 Texaco Children’s Art Competition Calendar, just published, and will be seen in thousands of homes throughout Ireland during the coming year.

Calendars are currently available through a select number of Texaco service stations and through Texoil.
