Former Manchester United player David May.

Charity chat with Man United legends

Three former Manchester United players will be in Cork this month for an evening of stories, laughter, and nostalgia in aid of two Irish charities.

On 24 January, Carrigaline Court Hotel will host former Manchester United players David May, Lee Martin, and Keith Gillespie who will share behind-the-scenes tales from one of the world’s most storied football clubs.

Proceeds from the event will go to support vital services in The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (The ASI) and The Shine Centre for Autism.

Hosted by MC Trevor Welsh, the event promises to be a memorable night, bringing fans up close with football icons as they recount their experiences both on the pitch and in the locker room, including the highs and pressures of life in the English Premier League.

In a special feature before the main event, Trevor Welsh will host Cork hurling legends Jimmy Barry Murphy and All-Ireland champion Fergal Ryan. Fans can look forward to an insightful discussion as the hurling greats reflect on their careers and share their thoughts on what it will take to push Cork to All-Ireland victory.

The event is organised by Aidan and Diane Dalton and Mark McCarthy of P O’Connell & Sons Butchers with sponsorship from Barry’s of Douglas and The Carrigaline Court Hotel.

Aidan Dalton said: “The Alzheimer Society was a great support to me and my family when mam Eileen had Alzheimers. I called the helpline, and they gave me so much valuable support. I can also see the invaluable work that The Shine Centre does for people.”

All proceeds from the evening will benefit the ASI and The Shine Centre for Autism, supporting invaluable work for people affected by dementia and autism across Cork and the country.

There will be an auction on the evening where attendees can win signed jerseys and other sporting memories.

Nikki Keegan, Fundraising Manager at the Alzheimer Society of Ireland said: “Thanks so much to organisers, the speakers, and the Carrigaline Hotel for hosting this event and raising vital funds for people living with dementia and their families in Cork and across the nation.”

Kieran McAuliffe, General Manager at the Shine Centre, said: “On behalf of the children and families we support, I want to express my gratitude to Aidan and Mark for their hard work and generosity in organising this great event. The funds raised will further assist us in providing services to autistic children across Cork city and county.”

The event takes place from 7.30-11pm on 24 January as the Carrigaline Court Hotel in Carrigaline.
