A pre-Christmas getaway in style

There’s an unmistakable charm about Cork, but experiencing it in the run-up to Christmas brings a warmth and magic like no other.

Recently, I enjoyed an excellent stay at the Midleton Park Hotel, just a stone’s throw from some of Cork’s most celebrated attractions, including the iconic Jameson Distillery.

It seems I wasn’t the only one drawn to this idea; the hotel was a hive of activity with couples, families, and friends all making the most of this enchanting time of year. Yet with so much luxury under one roof, I soon discovered there was no need to even step outside.

My retreat was the Owenacurra Suite—a true haven. With its spacious, open-plan design, the suite captures the elegance and comfort of a private apartment, all whilst being enveloped in the hotel’s warm, newly renovated décor. The recent refurbishment has breathed fresh life into Midleton Park Hotel, lending it a distinctive, contemporary style.

Dining at Midleton Park was a culinary highlight. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable—from check-in to the leisure centre to every meal. The dining experience itself, however, is worth talking about.

With an extensive menu crafted from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, it offered a mouth-watering selection that was both diverse and thoughtfully curated.

I began with a classic chicken Caesar salad, perfectly fresh and flavourful, and followed with a sumptuous steak, cooked to perfection. My dining companion, a vegetarian, was equally delighted by a beautifully indulgent deep-fried brie starter and a halloumi burger bursting with flavour.

Breakfast the next morning continued to impress. With a great selection on offer, each dish celebrated the best of Irish produce, filling the dining room with the comforting scent of freshly cooked local ingredients. It was the perfect way to start the day, made even better by the attentive and friendly staff who went out of their way to ensure a memorable experience.
