Kathmandu’s latest product innovation, the Epiq SE is crafted with fabric derived from recycled plastic waste including tyres.

New sustainable jacket is made for road

A new special edition puffer jacket produced by a global outdoor brand has been produced very sustainably with something that is truly surprising!

Kathmandu’s latest product innovation, the Epiq SE is crafted with fabric derived from recycled plastic waste, including end-of-life car tyres.

Delivering the same high-performance warmth that the Kathmandu Epiq jacket is known for, the Epiq SE (Special Edition) has a sleek modern look, and features 600-fill power duck down for ultimate comfort and warmth.

The adjustable hood and hem, plus internal stretch cuffs comfortably keep the body warm, while the durable water repellent finish encourages water to bead off its surface. Hands are kept warm in the two front zip pockets (with soft brushed lining), and inner stash and zip chest pocket keeps valuables safe and out of sight. The separate stuff sack means it can be quickly tucked away very quickly.

Kathmandu, a B-Corp certified brand, has specially developed the Epiq SE using end-of-life car tyres. In partnership with Fulgar, a leader in man-made fibres, the Epiq SE’s main fabric has been constructed with Fulgar’s groundbreaking technology, Q-CYCLE: a yarn made with recycled post-consumer waste, including end-of-life car tyres, produced in line with the principles of mass-balance.

Whereas tyres would normally be incinerated (releasing toxic pollutants into the atmosphere), or sent to landfill, Kathmandu's use of Q-CYCLE showcases the brand's further commitment to increasing circularity.

The Epiq SE delivers on performance and style too; the jacket features a sleek, triple-black aesthetic, and the fabric is lightweight, water repellent and highly durable. While Kathmandu delivers highly technical and highly functional gear for getting outdoors, the Epiq SE lends itself well to urban settings too.

Kathmandu’s General Manager of Product Karinda Robinson further explained: “We are committed to building thoughtfully designed, responsibly made gear and apparel. Kathmandu’s Epiq franchise first landed in 2015. We’re now delivering our best Epiq version yet, which is incredibly exciting and something we are immensely proud of. We will continue to embrace our Epiq icon as a vehicle for innovation, inspiration, and best-in-class sustainable practice.”
