Adam takes November award
It’s been a hectic and exciting time for Watergrasshill as they were first crowned County Premier Intermediate Hurling Champions and a short few weeks later they added the Munster title to their honours list.
Throughout all of their exploits several players stood out, but none more so then ace forward Adam Murphy chipping in some crucial scores when needed most and especially in the Munster Final win over Cashel King Cormacs.
In that game he bagged 1-12 and in recognition of this and his overall contribution, Adam is the latest recipient of the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star of the month award in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel.
Adam was thrilled to be honoured: “It’s been a brilliant few weeks and even now preparing for an All-Ireland semi-final in December seems so surreal and to be getting this award just makes it that bit better.”
He paid tribute to all who had helped make this possible. He’s had “great support on and off the field but the effort and work that Eddie Enright has put in is incredible and he is the main reason we are where we are”.
Adam also played an important role in the All-Ireland semi-final win over Carey Faughs and now they are looking Forward to a trip to Croke Park on 12 January and a meeting with Galway champions Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry.
County Board PRO Francis Kenneally in his last day as he completed his 3 year term of office, was fulsome in his praise for Adam and Watergrasshill. “I want to congratulate Adam and the club on what they have achieved to date and hopefully more to come, my own club Kanturk enjoyed similar success in this championship and it’s a very special time.”
Francis also thanked the sponsors. “96FM/C103 and the Rochestown Park Hotel are to be commended for their continued promotion of these very prestigious awards and for their ongoing support of Cork GAA.”
Steve Cox of RPH who has strong Watergrasshill connections and Kieran McGeary of 96FM also congratulated Adam and wished them continued success.
The lunch was attended by family and friends while Watergrasshill were represented by Chairman Niall O’Riordan and Eddie Enright among others.
There’s just one more award for the month of December to be presented ahead of the gala banquet in the Rochestown Park Hotel who are outstanding supporters of these awards on 31 January at which the overall award winner will be announced.
