Council mark twenty years of Park & Ride
A commemorative plague has been unveiled to mark the 20th anniversary of Cork city’s Park & Ride service.
The Black Ash Park & Ride was opened in December 2004 by Ivor Callely, the then Minister for State, Department of Transport in the presence of the former lord mayor Cllr Sean Martin. More than 2 million customers have used the bus over that 20-year period.
On unveiling the plague, the Lord Mayor Cllr Dan Boyle said: “The Park & Ride is an essential infrastructure for the people of Cork and has served patrons well for the last 20 years.
“The establishment of this service was in many ways ahead of its time, providing a sustainable transport solution for workers and shoppers in Cork.
“I am confident that this service will continue serve the people of Cork, further supporting our mission to reduce congestion within our city centre.”
Located on Kinsale Road and providing 940 car parking spaces the Park & Ride provides a convenient service for those who both work in the city and for people who want to visit the city centre to shop, eat or to attend a show.
Paul Moynihan, Director of Service said: "The Black Ash Park & Ride has served our city well and the city council is working closely with the National Transport Authority to advance plans and investment for the Park that will ensure its continuing value to Cork going forward.”
