Fans respond to donation callout

A Cork City FC player has said it’s amazing the difference that can be made when people work together after her team made a callout for donations for Cuanlee Refuge.

Cork City FC Women’s Team has donated toys, clothes, board games and selection boxes to the organisation after fans responded to a recent call-out for donations.

The team used their social media channels to ask supporters of the club to bring gifts to the Cork City FC grounds at Turner's Cross and Bishopstown.

Shaunagh McCarthy, Cork City FC Women's first team player, said: “We are delighted with the response to the call out for donations to Cuanlee Refuge.

“When families arrive there, many times they come with very little so we wanted to have some gifts for them, especially at this time of the year.” She added: “We are so thankful to all who contributed and donated. We really appreciate it. It’s amazing the difference we can make working together.”

Cuanlee Refuge provides safe and secure crisis accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

The organisation helps women who wish to move on and live independently, free from violence.

The donations collected by Cork City FC Women’s Team will be used as Christmas gifts for women and children at the refuge.

Mary Cullinane, Assistant Manager of Cuanlee Refuge, added: “Cuanlee Refuge would like to express their gratitude for the generous donation made by Cork City FC Women's Team, assisted by the public.

“Cuanlee appreciates the efforts made to gather the donations, especially at this time of year, as we approach Christmas. Sincere thanks to all involved in the club from all at Cuanlee Refuge,” Ms Cullinane added.

Since opening its doors in March 1978, Cuanlee has provided support, information and shelter 365 days of the year.
