Ruff day at Douglas Street Campus as Santa pops in
Tails were wagging and there was a paws-itive atmosphere on Leeside recently when the man in the big red suit came to visit all the good little doggies.
The Santa Paws and Animal Care Fair was organised by Douglas Street Campus Animal Care Department to fundraise for Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland. Dog owners had an opportunity to bring their dogs to have a photo taken with Santa and then browse some local craft stalls and play games and competitions.
It comes as a spokesperson for Douglas Street Campus said the college is excited to welcome Bali, a community support dog trained and placed with them by Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland.
The spokesperson said: “Bali will assist students in the college by being a warm welcoming affectionate presence that supports their emotional, social and academic well-being. Bali is the first dog to be placed in a further education college.”
The Santa Paws and Animal Care Fair raised more than €2,000.
“We are very grateful to dog owners who attended it, staff who supported it, students who put in their time and effort and the local businesses who sponsored and provided great prizes,” added the spokesperson.
