New bus route part of rural transport plan
A new bus service between Castletownbere and Kenmare has been launched.
This new route, which began on 30 December, is part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan, a major national public transport initiative that is developed and funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) as part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network.
Speaking about the new service, TFI Local Link Kerry General Manager Alan O’Connell said: “This new service is another real example of the ongoing enhancement of rural transport services in Ireland. The National Transport Authority and TFI Local Link are dedicated to offering residents in rural areas more sustainable travel options.”
Route 282 will operate four daily return services seven days a week including on public holidays. The new route will offer peak-time services and provide enhanced connectivity to regional bus services in Kenmare and Castletownbere. It will also improve connectivity for the villages and areas of Eyeries, Ardgroom, Lauragh, Tuosist and Dawros.
Mr O’Connell added: “Route 282 is a fantastic service for the area, which up to now, has never had a public transport service seven days a week 52 weeks of the year. This service is long anticipated and will be very welcomed by the community and tourists who wish to visit this beautiful area.”
