'This is a fun one for me'
A Cork native and lover of the Irish language made his first appearance on Ireland’s only rural based TV drama series, TG4’s 'Ros na Rún' on Tuesday night.
Denis Conway was selected to play the part of new character Ian Doherty, Crystal’s ex -husband and Cam’s dad.
He said: “I’m delighted to play Ian Doherty in TG4’s 'Ros na Rún', a new departure for me. While I spend a lot of time on stage, I don’t get to watch much TV but I do keep a close eye on the 'Ros na Rún' omnibus to see what the rogáire Tadhg O’Direáin is getting up to!
“So this is a fun one for me but more importantly it’s an excellent Irish language acting role which always excites me,” added Denis Conway.”
A lover of the Irish language who speaks Gaeilge at every opportunity he can, Denis Conway is a native of Cork and no stranger to TG4 and has presented documentaries for the Irish language broadcaster including 'Hollywood in Éirinn' and later this year will feature in the Cine 4 film 'Báite'.
This is Denis’s first appearance on the leading Irish language TV drama 'Ros na Rún' now in its 29th season. His passion for the Irish language is obvious and along with all of the cast of 'Ros na Rún', the opportunity to work in Ireland’s native language is always well received by Denis Conway and his Irish speaking actor colleagues.
Denis said: “'Ros na Rún' has developed a wonderful platform for Irish language actors and I’m excited to be part of it for now. Let’s see what Ian gets up to in the coming weeks with his son Cam and ex - wife Crystal!”
Marion Ní Loingsigh, Series Producer, said: “Gaeilge, the Irish language and Gaeltacht rural life are the corner stones of our stories and we’re always keen to explore and develop new characters and personalities. As a leading Irish language actor, we’re thrilled to welcome Denis Conway to the role of Ian Doherty.
“He’s going to make an impact with viewers and add another layer to the turbulent Derrane family. We’re always working to further develop the entertainment value of 'Ros na Rún# and both Denis Conway and his character Ian Doherty will achieve this in the evolving story of Crystal, Sonny and Natasha Derrane and the somewhat conceited Cam.”
