Embracing diverse stories of hope
A special day acknowledging and celebrating all children and young people in care, and those with care experience, to applaud their resilience and their achievements took place recently.
Tusla - Child and Family Agency was part of Care Day 2025 with events taking place across the country. The day featured all of Tusla’s children and young people in care, those with care experience, foster carers, staff, and partner agencies and Tusla aimed to listen to them about their experiences.
The theme for Care Day 2025 was Voices from care, ripples of change which recognises the transformative power of hearing directly from those with care experience, to embrace their diverse stories of hope, courage, talent, and achievement.
Care Day is organised by Empowering People in Care (EPIC), an advocacy organisation for children and young people who are currently in care or who have experience of being in care. Speaking about Care Day before the event, Kate Duggan, CEO, Tusla, said: “Every year we look forward to celebrating Care Day with our young people, foster carers and colleagues around the country, and to promote awareness about the experiences of young people in care and those with care experience.
“This year’s theme, Voices from care, ripples of change highlights the importance of hearing directly from young people with care experience, to effect real and sustainable change. To learn from their positive experiences, to listen and understand the challenges they face, so that we can work harder across agencies, government and wider society to improve services and to ensure that we are providing them with the right support to help them to achieve their full potential,” she said.
“It also provides us with an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and commitment of our foster carers and staff making a difference in the lives of children in care right across the country.
Celebrations for Care Day 2025 will take place in communities across Ireland today, including coffee mornings, family fun days for foster families and drop in events for care experienced young people.
“I would encourage everyone, to please take this opportunity to find out more about these events and learn about how you could support young people in care, and those with care experience in 2025,” she added.
