A school and a cutting-edge pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Cork are among the projects that have been announced as finalists for the Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards this week.
The Douglas Rochestown Educate Together National School (ETNS) project, delivered by BAM was honoured as a finalist in the education or healthcare category. Judges praised it for exemplifying “excellence in modern, sustainable educational infrastructure” adding that it was completed on time and within budget.
In the industrial category, the BC3.2 Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine project made by PM Group was also highlighted. Judges said it was “a cutting-edge pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Cork, highlighting Ireland's role in global healthcare innovation”.
The ICE Awards have been operating since 1993, and for over 30 years have been celebrating and recognising Irish talent in delivering innovation, quality, and dedication within the sector. The awards cover various sectors such as residential, civil engineering, commercial, industrial and healthcare and education. This year a ‘Future Leader’ category was introduced which highlights emerging talent.
Some of the other finalists announced include the N59 MoyCullen Bypass in Galway for the civil engineering category and the Carnegie Free Library in Swords for the public building category.
The finalists were selected by an esteemed judging panel comprised of names like PJ Rudden, Chair of the Construction Sector Group (CSG) Innovation and Digital Adoption at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform and Mary Flynn, Co-Founder of Public BIM and Dublin City Council Quantity Surveyor. They were presented projects for each category and interviewed each participant.
The awards are also calling on the public to vote for the project of the year category where they will choose the best building of the year. Voting is open now and closes 24 March.
This year’s winners will be announced at the ICE Awards Gala Event on 1 May at the Convention Centre Dublin. One of Ireland’s top comedians Neil Delamere will host the awards.
Colin Walsh, ICE Awards Media Director said: “The Irish Construction Excellence Awards continue to highlight the remarkable talent and innovation within the construction industry. This year's finalists have set new benchmarks in quality and sustainability, reflecting the dynamic nature of Irish construction. We encourage everyone to participate in the Project of the Year voting and join us in celebrating Ireland best building projects.”
