‘Beautiful and kind’ Joanne laid to rest

A dark cloud has dimmed the sunshine over Cork city today following the funeral of a young woman who died tragically while abroad with her mother.

Joanne Catherine Kelleher of Kilmore Heights was laid to rest yesterday in St Catherine's Cemetery, Kilcully.

Ms Kelleher died “unexpectedly” on 30 March while in Spain with her mum Margaret.

Following her death, emotional tributes have poured in from broken-hearted friends and family who described her as “beautiful and kind”.

One close friend wrote: “Joanne was the best friend I could ever have. My deepest condolences to you all. May she rest in peace.”

A former work colleague wrote: “Rest in peace Joanne, I’m absolutely shocked at this news. You wore such a joy to work with in the Green Isle Hotel, always looking so gorgeous and glam and up for a right laugh with me, my sister Vanessa, Laura, and Dylan. May you get the best bed in heaven.”

Another close friend wrote: “Jojo, my heart is truly broken and I will miss you so much. Our chats, our nights out. Your funny memes. You were one in a million, funny, talented, kind and caring, beautiful inside and out, you’ll leave such a big void in so many people’s lives, rest in peace.” Tributes also came in from neighbours and childhood friends of Ms Kelleher’s, with one writing: “We are very sorry to hear the tragic news about Joanne. Many fond memories growing up as kids playing out on the road. Such devastating news. May Joanne rest in eternal peace and may God look after you all in your darkest days.”

Another shared: “Oh Margaret my heart is broken for you and your children. I’m so very sorry to hear the tragic news about Joanne. So many memories from out the front in Kilmore Heights as kids playing games over in the field, making houses, the ice cream man, etc. I’m so, so sorry Margaret. It’s absolutely devastating news. I can’t believe it.”

A neighbour in Dublin wrote: “I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Joanne. We had the pleasure of being Joanne's neighbours in Blanchardstown. Such a kind genuine girl who had a heart of gold. I will remember Joanne to always have a smile on her face and just being so kind and helpful. Thinking of all her family at this very sad time.”

Ms Kelleher leaves behind her mother Margaret, step-father John, and siblings Lorraine, Grace, and Stephen.
