Taboo-breaking play promises hilarity and more
The play is coming back to Cork Arts Theatre in April before heading to the Galway Theatre Festival in May. The story follows Monica, a middle-aged woman who has had a fast-paced life and discovers her greatest adventure is yet to come. Now on the edge of a plane 10,000 feet in the air with nothing but a flimsy parachute between her and certain death, will she take the plunge and jump? “Am I mad or what? No! I’m just hor-mental!”
Monica has had enough of being nice, reasonable and sensible, and is being unapologetic about her needs and desires. Now trying to break herself down and reinvent herself, the question is is it too late? “Something has to change… to jump or not to jump, that is the question!” ‘JUMP!?’ is Pauline O’Driscoll’s first solo self-penned play after having previously co-written and performed ‘Seven Ages of MAM’. She is also known for her work on ‘The Tourist’, ‘Borderline’, ‘The Dry’, ‘SisterS’, and ‘Mustard, Smalltown’. She said: “I like to write about women, about the female experience. I wanted to write a play that explores the impact of hormones throughout all the various stages of women’s lives. The result is this provocative, taboo busting, more risqué than I’d planned, cringe behind your hands, whilst wetting yourself laughing one woman play. “I was humbled beyond measure at the audience’s reactions last year so I am thrilled to bits to be back at Cork Arts Theatre before heading on to the Galway Theatre Festival.” The creative team behind ‘JUMP!?’ include writer, actor and producer Pauline O’Driscoll, director Karen Minihan, set designer Hannah Lane, lighting and sound designer Cormac O’Connor and Elisa Gallo Rosso for circle design and build.
