Plans for a special event to raise funds for a cancer charity are taking shape in Mogeely.

The East Cork village will host the Annual Denny Hennessy Memorial Run and live music festival hosted by the Imokilly Tavern to raise funds for Cancer Connect.

The run begins at 11.30am and takes a scenic route around East Cork before returning to the village for the live music celebrations which kicks off at The Imokilly Tavern at 3pm.

There will also be a family day with lots of fun activities for all ages with events like face painting, balloon making, an Emerald Ice Cream Van, Dinkie Doughnuts, Coleman’s Food Truck and Esther's Chipper. There will also be a raffle with amazing prizes donated by local businesses, as well as Cork’s 96FM Street Fleet.

Funds raised go straight to Cancer Connect, a nonprofit that co-ordinates transport to Cork hospitals for passengers attending Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy treatments.

The charity has run since 2011 and is entirely driven by volunteers.

Since its inception the charity has provided 58,000 passenger journeys. The service operates throughout County Cork except in city suburbs.

Helen O’Driscoll, Manager of Cancer Connect said: “We really depend on community support to maintain and enhance our services. On behalf of Cancer Connect we are extremely grateful to the organisers and to the people of East Cork.”
