UK folk icon Ralph McTell will be in Cork next month.

UK folk legend to drift into Leeside

A beloved musical icon is preparing to celebrate his decades long career as well as his 80th birthday while on tour, with a big show planned for Cork next month.

British folk singer-songwriter Ralph McTell will be bringing his ‘Time Drift of the Road’ tour to Cork Opera House on 11 May as part of an epic 19 show tour of Ireland.

A legendary craftsman in the world of folk music, McTell has been in the spotlight for over five decades. Now set to celebrate his 80th birthday on the road, he has shown no signs of slowing down and continues to draw in fans across multiple generations. He said he sees this tour as a celebration of longevity, artistry, and the continued love for live music.

Reflecting on his upcoming dates, McTell says: “I have been doing shows in Ireland for many years. Firstly, in Belfast in 1969 and later in Dublin, eventually getting around the whole country, but it has taken a while to do a national tour. In 2025, I shall be undertaking my biggest and most comprehensive set of dates around Ireland ever. My 2023 tour was hugely enjoyable, and 2025 is going to be a real celebration. I’m looking forward to it already.”

Despite recent health challenges throughout the last few years like fighting prostate cancer, McTell champions the stage and creates new music to inspire the next generation of folk artists. He also hopes to raise awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment, a message that resonates with many of his fans.

With this tour, McTell aims to prove that age and illness don’t have to slow us down, and anyone of any age or ability can accomplish what they want. ‘Time Drift of the Road’ promises to be a moving celebration of both life and song.
