Prints that pop
With Easter and spring come a longing to add print into my wardrobe and now is the perfect time to play around with some of the most popular prints of the season.
Florals for spring - groundbreaking as Miranda Priestly from ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ would say, but there is no better time to don this cheery print that is a sartorial staple. Polka dot, stripes and leopard print are other prints I’m looking to experiment with this season. There are so many ways you can add prints into your everyday looks from ditsy florals to big bold polka dots.
I’m a big fan of florals, you can’t help but feel happy and full of the joys of spring when wearing them and they administer a big dopamine hit to your wardrobe. For a fresh spring look, you can’t go wrong with a ditsy print sun dress that is actually quite versatile. For summer just add a sandal and a woven basket bag but for now I like to pair mine with a leather jacket and some chunky Doc Marten boots.
It can also be worn styled with a light blazer and pumps for workwear. You can also go all out with a big and bold floral print, and this looks particularly good on occasion wear when you want to make a statement. The great thing about florals is the plethora of colour usually involved so you have so many options when pulling out a colour for accessorising. Don’t be afraid to mix a smaller ditsy print floral with a large floral print for a unique take on the trend. Give a nod to the trend with a flower tied to some ribbon and worn around the neck which looks particularly well styled with an oversized, tailored suit.
Polka dots are another staple print for spring summer and you can go as subtle or as bold as you like. I am a major fan of a big polka dot and a few seasons ago I invested in a navy and white polka dot blouse with dramatic sleeves that’s makes a nice change from the traditional black and white and easily dresses up a pair of jeans and heels combination.
A white and black summer dress is timeless so invest now for a dress that you can wear again and again, perfect for a trip to Wimbledon if you were so inclined to eat strawberries on the lawn while watching the tennis. I also love mixing this print so wearing white on top and black on the bottom also looks effortlessly chic. Don’t be afraid to stray from these traditional colourways though as pink, red, or blue can give a modern take on this classic print. Polka dot like a classic stripe can give a chic, clean girl aesthetic vibe to your outfit.
If you want to get fashion forward, then think about mixing the above classics with another print stalwart and that of course is leopard print. It somehow just works well when spliced together with another print and if this seems daunting then look to brands such as Rixo or Hayley Menzes that do the hard work for you whether that be in dresses or fabulous statement knitwear. Take the time to style these prints and you’ll easily make a bold fashion statement.
