Two in court for cannabis seizure

Two men in their 30s appeared in court yesterday after being caught in possession of €105,000 of suspected cannabis herb.

They appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice Cork yesterday morning after being arrested in the city earlier in the week when gardaí from the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit, assisted by uniformed and detective gardaí from Gurranabraher, executed two search warrants.

At 7pm on Monday evening gardaí executed the first search warrant at a house on Sundays Well Road. During the search, gardaí seized €85,000 of suspected cannabis herb. The two men were arrested at the scene and were brought to Gurranabraher Garda Station.

The men were then detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

A second search warrant was later executed at a house on Blarney Street resulting in the seizure of a further €20,000 of suspected cannabis herb. No further arrests were made following the second search.

All of the suspected drugs were sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
