Gardaí targeting car park drug use

Gardaí say they are continuing to clamp down on drug use in car parks around the city.

This came to light at a community forum for Blackpool, Farranree and Shandon this week following previous complaints about the issue.

Local gardaí were updating the public about complaints made at a previous meeting where a member of the public alleged that there was drug use and anti-social behaviour in a Cork city car park.

Sergeant Terry Murphy said at the meeting, held in in Blackpool Community Centre, that gardaí had been alerted to the difficulties at the car park and increased patrols were promised to target the issue.

He also said that the gardaí were working with other stakeholders so that the issue can be resolved.

Sergeant Murphy added: “The drugs unit are giving it a lot of attention and there has been a lot of improvements there. It is still a problem though and we are doing the best we can and are policing the area.”
