Máirtín will be on your screen!

Stick the kettle on because an old friend is coming to visit - virtually that is.

This coming Monday Carrigaline man Máirtín de Cógáin will play a remote live concert via famed Clonakilty venue De Barra’s Folk Club's Facebook page.

Máirtín, who now lives in San Diego, California, has been wandering the globe for the past 20 years, entertaining everyone he meets with the stories and songs of Cork.

The singing, dancing, story-telling bodhrán player started off his career with the Owenabue Valley Traditional Group, playing at various folk dance festivals across Europe.

He has since toured Ireland, England and America with The Fuchsia Band and then with beloved Cork balladeer Jimmy Crowley, all the while developing his own Máirtín de Cógáin Project. Máirtín last played on his native soil at the Munster Fleadh in Cork city back in 2017.

In 2013 he brought out the DVD ‘From Cork with Love’, a musical travelogue around Cork city funded by a very successful Kickstarter campaign.

The DVD featured special musical guests like John Spillane and Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly, as well as Jimmy Crowley and his father Barry Cogan who gave a demonstration on how to make a proper cup of tea. Barry’s, of course.

With the Covid-19 pandemic remaining for now, who knows when Máirtín might find himself on Leeside again. Monday’s remote gig is a great opportunity to experience the Cork man’s magic from the comfort of your own home, with no parking or queuing required.
