Where is Ballinlough?
If you thought Cork had everything, we have news for you!
You’ll have to find your own way to Ballinlough, as there are no signs to be found directing you to the area in the city at all and there won’t be anytime soon either.
That’s because, according to City Hall, it is considered a suburban residential area within the Cork city administrative area and the council “does not erect directional signage to suburban residential areas within its own administrative area”.
Ballinlough is located in a heavily populated surburban area on the southside of the city, close to the Ballintemple, Douglas and Blackrock areas.
The call for signage to Ballinlough came after Fianna Fáil Cllr Terry Shannon asked the council to put up signs directing people to the location from various locations across the city.
He said residents have said that when people are calling to them, it can be hard to find where they are because of the lack of signage.
He said there’s been a push back from City Hall to do it. “There’s a bit of a resistance to do it. It’s especially needed coming off the link road where you’ve signs for Blackrock, Mahon, Douglas, Ballincollig and Togher but there’s nothing for Ballinlough.
“City Hall say that don’t put up signs in suburban residential areas but they clearly do! Even on the Douglas Road, there should be one like at the Bellair Estate junction,” concluded Cllr Shannon.
