Gardaí probe alleged Dublin Hill assault

A young man was left with serious facial injuries after an alleged assault on the northside of Cork city, the Cork Independent has learned.

Gardaí and an ambulance were called to an incident in the Glenthorn Mews area of Dublin Hill at approximately 2.30am on Tuesday morning.

A statement from An Garda Síochána to the newspaper on Wednesday said a man in his 20s was treated for “serious facial injuries” following the incident, which is alleged to have occurred between two males.

While the extent of the man’s injuries and cause of the reported incident are not yet known, gardaí confirmed that investigations are ongoing. No arrests have been made.

The alleged incident is believed to have taken place close to St Aidan's Community College and St Oliver's Catholic Church on Dublin Hill.

Speaking about the incident, Fianna Fáil Cllr Kenneth O’Flynn, said: “The area of Glenthorn Mews is an extremely quiet and respectable area, with many older residents and long-standing community members living there.

“It is extremely upsetting that something like this would happen, and the community are in shock that such a vicious attack would take place on their doorstep.”
