City takeaway robbed at knife point

Staff working in a takeaway in Cork city were last night threatened what was is believed to have been a knife.  

Shortly before midnight, gardaí in Anglesea Street received a report of a robbery at a takeway on George's Quay. 

A garda spokesman confirmed this morning: "A man had entered a takeaway, armed with what is believed to a knife, and had threatened staff. He left the scene empty handed and no staff member was injured during the incident."

Gardaí carried out a search of the area and arrested a man in his 20s on Tower Street, which is between Friars Walk and Barrack Street. 

The knife that was believed to have been used in the incident was also seized.

He was brought to the Bridewell Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
