Finding ‘the one’

Hello to all you brides-to-be and congratulations if you have just got engaged! It really is an exciting time. If you read my piece in the last wedding supplement, you’ll know I’m in the middle of organising my own wedding.

The past few weeks have been busy, to say the least.

I went to bridal fitting with my mam and fiancé’s mam and while I found a dress that I really liked, there was no love there as there should be. It wore me, rather than I wore it.

But wow, what a strange but lovely feeling seeing yourself wearing a wedding dress and a veil. It is, after all, something you don’t wear every day!

They say you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince and that’s how I’m treating this search. I may not have found my soul mate when it comes to a wedding dress but I know what doesn’t suit me. Ball gown and mermaid are big no nos and the column shape doesn’t suit my figure. I

’m also not interested in a knee length dress. If I can find something between A-line and trumpet, I’ll be on to a winner. I should have found ‘the one’ by the time the next supplement is out.

That’s not all I’ve organised in the past few weeks. I met with Patricia from Fuchsia Flowers who will be arranging, what I have no doubt, will be beautiful flowers for us. The Munster Quartet will be playing music in St Peter and Paul’s Church as we say ‘I do’.

Make-up artist Niamh Murphy will be working her magic on me and Carbon Hair Design will be looking after my tresses. I’ve also booked a room for my parents and a room for myself in the Imperial Hotel the night before the wedding (we’re good to ourselves aren’t we?) so that’s where my bridesmaids, Claire and Alice, and my mam will be getting ready. It’s the same the hotel our reception is in, so staying there the night before was a no-brainer.

I’ve also given himself two jobs. Aidan is responsible for the suits and the honeymoon!

Bye for now,

Niamh Áine
