Rockboro Primary School is celebrating 50 years since the school was founded.

Golden jubilee for Rockboro

Drinks, nibbles, a good chat and some light jazz will mark the 50th anniversary of one of Cork’s most well-known schools this month.

Rockboro Primary School on the Boreenmanna Road in Ballintemple is now half a century old and on 17 January will hold a party to celebrate with friends, teachers, colleagues and past students.

Founded in 1969, the school was unique for its time, educating boys and girls of all nationalities, cultures and beliefs, with an emphasis on nurturing the potential of each individual student.

Rockboro is a not-for-profit, independent school run on school fees and funds raised, and does not receive grants or monies from the State or any organisation.

Throughout 2020 the school will continue to celebrate its students, alumni and teachers. Celebratory events will include an Alumni Hockey Saturday, Family Fun Day and a Gala Ball.

The school boasts past pupils such as An Tánaiste Simon Coveney, former Irish international hockey star Rachael Kohler and human rights lawyer Roisin Pilay, as well as a number of families synonymous with Cork business over the years.
