It’s the litter of the law
A new anti-litter campaign has been launched on Leeside and it’s 'bin' a long time coming.
Launched by Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Joe Kavanagh, Cork Against Litter aims to encourage, educate, and empower the people of Cork city to take action and tackle littering issues within their communities.
The new campaign also aims to help create and support a sense of community and togetherness across the city.
Upon his election as Lord Mayor, Cllr Kavanagh, who is a proud member of his local Tidy Towns Committee, announced that tackling litter and anti-litter related activities would be one of his key priorities during his term of office.
The campaign will encompass an anti-dog fouling awareness campaign, increased dog walking routes and an information campaign on waste presentation by-laws.
It will also support the National Spring Clean campaign while running advertising and promotional campaigns around litter.
Currently, littering in a public place in Cork city and county can result in a minimum €150 on the spot fine and fines of up to €3,000 in court.
