Calling all budding bakers
A special challenge for Cork’s budding bakers will take place this weekend as part of national children’s creativity day Cruinniú na Óg.
Organised by Cork City Council in conjunction with Creative Ireland, Cruinniú na Óg takes place this coming Saturday and features over 30 free events for children hosted by 26 cultural organisations.
In celebration of the event, Cork City Arts Office has invited children and young people to bake an edible artwork and take a photo to be in with an opportunity to win some gift vouchers.
The theme of the challenge is ‘Treats on the Streets’ and it is calling on all Cork’s young bakers to bring their creative ideas to life through an edible medium which can be cake, cupcakes, cookies, cake pops, cakesicles or sugar moulding.
Prizes for the most creative responses will be awarded by renowned sugar sculptor Maureen Timpson. The competitions two categories are for under ten years old and 11-18 years old.
Maureen is a multiple Gold Medal and Best in Class winner at Cake International and Salon Culinaire in NEC Birmingham and a Gold Medal award winner at Cork Sugarcraft Association Competitions.
The closing date for all entries is this Sunday 13 June.
