Cork wins Páirc Uí Rinn battle

This week it was finally agreed that Cork are to play Kerry in Páirc Uí Rinn in the Munster Senior Football Semi Final on 7 May.

The decision this week by the Munster Council to ratify the venue is a significant win for the Cork footballers who had refused to play the match in Killarney.

Since Ed Sheeran will be playing a gig in Páirc Uí Chaoimh tonight and tomorrow making the stadium unavailable at the weekend, a few weeks ago the Munster Council made the decision to move the game to Killarney.

The Cork football team refused to accept this. They demanded the game be played in Páirc Uí Rinn or nowhere and last week Kerry agreed to play the game in Páirc Uí Rínn.

On Monday night, the Munster Council ratified it as the venue. The game will throw in at 6pm.

The game will be preceded by the Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Championship clash of Kerry and Tipperary, which throws in at 3.30pm.

A statement from Munster GAA said the “decision follows the agreement of Kerry County Board to Cork’s request to set aside their longstanding home and away arrangement involving the venues of Fitzgerald Stadium and Páirc Uí Chaoimh for 2022 and to play this fixture in Páirc Uí Rinn.

“The home and away arrangement will resume with the next game between the two counties in the Munster Football Championship taking place at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney and will alternate with Páirc Uí Chaoimh from then on.”

Tickets for the 7 May clash will only be on sale through the county boards and all Cork and Kerry season ticket holders will be entitled to a ticket.
