Singing the blues in Mitchelstown
Who would have thought those famous opening words from Jimi Hendrix, “Welcome to my church of blues”, would ever come true?
Next Friday, Ireland’s newest blues club will open its doors for the 1st time at the renovated former Saint George’s church in Mitchelstown.
The debut show will be a fundraiser for the ongoing restoration of the church, now known as Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre.
Blues guitar lovers of all ages are in for a treat with guitar wizard Gerry Quigley and The Mystic Blues band along with special guest Siobhán O'Brien performing on the night.
Gerry Quigley has returned home to Ireland after 30 years in Australia and has continued to attract crowds where ever he plays. Whether it’s a standing ovation at Perth Concert Hall Western Australia, a festival stage, or playing on the floor in one of his favourite Irish pubs, for Gerry and the band, every show is as important as the last and Friday 1 July will be no exception.
The audience will be treated to the group’s signature style of blues rock and progressive rock originals, all with a distinctive Celtic feel running throughout.
Special guest Siobhán O'Brien has recently returned home to Ireland after enjoying great success touring the USA.
Dubbed “a voice the world should hear” by Paddy Moloney of The Chieftains, Siobhán is writing music for the risk takers of this world.
Siobhán, a 4th generation Irish musician, headed stateside in 2017 where she toured, recorded and released her most recent album.
Every 2nd month, on the first Friday of the month, The Church Blues Club at Saint Georges Mitchelstown will become a great place to bring friends to experience some of the best touring blues artists from Ireland and around the world.
Tickets for the opening show on 1 July are on sale from Eventbrite and also at the door. For more information, visit thechurchbluesclub.com.
