Filmmaker brings slice of Cork to Trafalgar Square

A Cork filmmaker and radio presenter will see his video work shown to more than 50,000 people in Trafalgar Square, as part of the Mayor of London’s St Patrick’s Day festivities.

That’s Kilian Pettit and a music video he directed for Cork band ‘The Newborn’ which will be shown this weekend on the big screens at one of Central London’s most popular outdoor annual events.

Kilian said: “We made the video on the streets of Cork city, and at various locations around Crosshaven, including the old St Matthew’s church in Templebreedy. It’s lovely to be able to bring our beautiful local scenery to the centre of London.”

Kilian is a familiar voice on Cork airwaves, having spent 6 years at RedFM, as well as a recent stint on 96fm.

Now based in London, he works primarily in video content creation. Previous work includes content for Jamie Oliver’s social media, as well as local comedy character Reggie from the Blackrock Road.

His award-winning short film ‘The Day The Pubs Re-Opened’ screened at last year’s St Patrick’s Film festival.

“Irish Film London is such a fantastic organisation. They run a number of events across the year, and are a great resource for Irish filmmakers trying to find their way in the business,” he added.

The Mayor of London St Patrick’s Festival, now in its 20th year, takes place Sunday 12 March, and features a live performance by Sharon Shannon and many more.
