€849,500 for nine projects
Cork is to benefit from Government funding which is hoped will help owners care for their historic properties.
Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan TD, announced on Tuesday that 95 heritage projects across the country will benefit from a total of €4.5m under this year’s Historic Structures Fund (HSF), with €849,500 being awarded to 9 projects in Cork.
It includes awards to:
• Former Mansion House, Mercy University Hospital - €200,000 for the conservation and repair of the external envelope of the building, including stone repair, re-plastering, re-slating, leadwork, and window conservation
• Bantry House, Seafield - €200,000 for urgent repair works to the roof and parapet walls of the west loggia
• Mallow Castle granary buildings - €80,000 for repair works, including repairs to the roofs, replacement of rainwater goods, protection of the windows, chimney repair at the grain store, partial pointing, and vegetation removal
• Blackrock Castle - €40,000 to help implement permanent long-term solutions to address water ingress and moisture build up with the overall policy being to retain, restore and enhance the integrity and significance of the building in line with international charters and best practice.
