Six Nations jersey donated to a great cause

A piece of rugby memorabilia is up for grabs to raise funds for a Cork charity.

Ireland and Munster back row Peter O’Mahony wore the shirt against Wales in the opening match of Ireland’s Six Nations campaign, which ended in a Grand Slam home victory over England. He has now handed it over to Cork University Hospital Charity to raise funds to enhance physiotherapy equipment in the main and maternity hospitals.

He said: “After a memorable Six Nations, I’m happy to part with the jersey, knowing that whatever is raised will help the thousands of people across Munster who rely on the physio unit in CUH and CUMH every year.”

The signed and framed jersey, worn by O’Mahony in Cardiff on 4 February will be an extra special keepsake for whoever wins it in an online draw on idonate.ie. It was also the day he won his 90th Ireland cap.

Grace Collins, Acting Senior Physiotherapist in Paediatrics at CUH said: “I realised it was something special but it was only when we went to the hospital’s charity office, that we realised how special. A lot of people want to know how to get their hands on it!” A portion will also go towards supporting physio and other hospital staff running the London Marathon for the same cause on 23 April.
