Cork vessels collect crucial offshore data

Survey works along Ireland’s southern and eastern coasts have been successfully completed by a Cork-based offshore investigation company.

The geophysical surveys, undertaken by Green Rebel, will help provide a clearer understanding of seabed conditions in an area of the Celtic Sea.

The area sits within the recently published Draft Designated Marine Area Plan (DMAP) zone off the coasts of Waterford and Wexford.

The surveys, which took place from late spring into summer, were conducted by Green Rebel’s purpose-built survey vessels, the Roman Rebel and the Lady Kathleen.

Announcing the completion of the surveys was energy developer SSE Renewables whose Project Manager Bryan O’Connor said: “While we await confirmation of exactly where the first ORESS2 site will be located, the capture of any seabed data within a proposed DMAP zone can only be a positive thing.”

Dr Jared Peters, Head of Geo at Green Rebel added: “These surveys will play a key role in informing the next stage of sustainable offshore project development as Ireland makes the critical transition from fossil fuels.

“These campaigns were managed using our own fleet of survey vessels, the Roman Rebel and the Lady Kathleen, both based out of Crosshaven.

“Our offshore and onshore teams have again demonstrated the capability and expertise that exists here in the Irish supply chain.

“At every stage of the project, from survey design through to acquisition, processing and reporting, our team has produced high quality data in line with international and industry best practice.”
