Setting a woolled record
Fancy donning a garish festive knit and breaking a world record while doing it?
In a bid to spread Christmas cheer and make history at the same time, the Marina Market is rallying the residents of Cork to join forces and attempt to break the world record for the most Christmas jumpers worn in one place at one time.
Whether it’s a sweater with enormous Christmas puddings, glued-on googly eyes, or glittery reindeer, there’s no jumper too ugly for this event, and the festive spectacle is set to take place at the Marina Market on Sunday 17 December between 12.30pm and 2pm.
Organisers are calling on everyone to get involved in turning the Marina Market into a sea of festive knitwear and with a bit of luck, the current Guinness World Record of 3,473 people, achieved in 2015 by a university in Leicestershire, will be beaten. “This will take a lot of work and commitment so we would love/urge people to join in. Bring your friends, tell your family and lets break a world record together,” say organisers.
On the day there will be the opportunity to contribute to charitable causes for those in need.
"We are also teaming up with Share and CUH as our charity partners and donations are welcome,” they added.
For those interested in attending the event, you will need to register at at Eventbrite. The day itself will start from 12pm, where registration is confirmed. The photo will take place from 1.30pm until 2pm, with live music from 2pm until 4pm.
And for those who like to avoid Christmas jumpers but have little ones to enterain, there are other options available too, as Santa’s Magical Market is currently in full swing at the Marina Market until 23 December.
The experience includes interactive areas full of Christmas magic where families can wander through snowy woods, ride on the Polar Express train into the magical Christmas village, help the elves make toys at the Elf Toy Workshop, make treats at Mrs Claus’s bakery, and pay a visit to the South Pole Post Office. The event is also fully accessible and will have a sensory hour each Sunday morning from 11am to 12pm.
Tickets are priced at €12 for adults, €10 for babies aged 0-23 months without a gift or €15 with a gift, €15 for children aged 23 months + without a gift or €22.50 with a gift. For more details and bookings see www.santasmagical.market.
