Cork company wins 4 medals in World Cider competition
With over 40 judges and hundreds of entries, Killahora Orchards faced stiff competition from other apple and pear drink producers across the world. They sent a whiskey cask aged Rare Apple Ice Wine from 2020, a Pet-nat Perry, a cask aged bottle conditioned cider and their special edition Pom'O, an 'apple port', that was in Roe and Co Irish whiskey casks.
The cider won bronze, the perry and rare apple ice wine both won silver medals and the Pom'O was the stand out with 93/100 and was just pipped at the post by an entry from Sweden.
Speaking about their success, Barry Walsh of Kilahora Orchards said: “Because of the reputation of this competition, the calibre of the other entrants and the skill, and sheer number of judges, this was a really great result for us.”
“It is also a testament to the combination of our fruit with over 150 different cider apple varieties and 50 perry pear varieties, as well as our innovative techniques to bring our the best flavours from each vintage,” he said.
