New Labour councillor on county council

Cork County Council is back up to its full complement of 55 elected members following the co-option of Mallow Labour representative Eoghan Kenny.

Cllr Kenny, a 24 year old teacher, replaces outgoing Cllr James Kennedy following his retirement earlier this month.

Addressing the chambre for the first time, Cllr Kenny said it is a “dream come true” to have the opportunity to represent the people of Mallow.

“I’m passionate about my community,” said Cllr Kenny.

“I attended St Patrick’s Boys School and the Patrician Academy, I’ve played a good bit of hurling and football with Mallow, and to receive this opportunity now to represent the people of my community that I was born in, raised in, and live in, is a real honour,” he added.

In the months remaining before the upcoming local elections, Cllr Kenny said he has many priorities to address in Mallow.

He continued: “Mallow has many reccurring issues that don’t seem to be getting solved.

“We have a main street that is plagued with dereliction and vacancy which does not represent the welcoming environment that we have in Mallow.”

Cllr Kenny said his biggest priority is to solve the town’s ongoing traffic congestion crisis.

“This can be done by getting the Mallow Relief Road built as soon as possible,” he said.
