Cobh to commemorate 112th anniversary of the Titanic

Cobh will commemorate the 112th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic next month.

On Saturday 14 April, the public are invited to honour the memory of those who lost their lives when the ship sank.
The commemoration is being held at the Titanic Memorial in Pearse Square at 3pm and is being organised by Cobh Tourism.
The event will feature tributes including music honours by the Commodore Male Voice Choir, prayers, and the laying of wreaths. Dignitaries, Cobh locals and the general public are all invited to attend the commemoration.
A colour Party from the Cobh Irish Branch O.N.E. will march to the Titanic Memorial where the commemorative ceremonies will commence.
After the memorial service attendees will be asked to gather at the Promenade to hear the names of the 79 passengers who boarded the Titanic in Cobh on 11 April 1912, and tragically lost their lives in the icy North Atlantic water just four days later.
A wreath will then be cast into the sea in remembrance of all who lost their lives. The Cobh Confraternity Band will play their rendition of ‘The Last Post and Reveille’.
Attendees who wish to learn more about Cobh’s connection to the Titanic can visit the Cobh Heritage Centre and the Titanic Experience Cobh.
They can also join the Titanic Trail Walking Tour, where passenger’s stories are brought to life.
