Early peek at Midsummer lineup

Ahead of the full programme launch in May, Cork Midsummer Festival has just announced two internationally acclaimed productions from two of Ireland's most exciting companies.

First up it’s ‘Night Dances’ by Emma Martin/United Fall running from 13-15 June at the Warehouse at Marina Market. A celebration of dance culture - from clubs to competitions to ceremonies - and a sweaty love letter to dance in all its forms, ‘Night Dances’ revels in fury, rebellion, hope and freedom.

It unleashes the exhilaration of getting lost in your own rhythm where nothing else matters, just the sweat and the groove.

Choreographer Emma Martin's work spans artforms, often combining different disciplines to create distinct visual universes with each piece, and always with a raw style of dance as its heart. This is the first presentation of the company's work in Cork.

This will be the third time ‘Night Dances’ will transform the warehouse at Marina Market into a venue for dance.

Then running from 20-23 June at The Everyman, it’s ‘Good Sex’ by Dead Centre with Emilie Pine, a sublimely funny love story for a loveless age. Each show will feature two new performers - some of the best actors in the country - to tell a story of desire, betrayal, and loneliness. They have not rehearsed and have never read the script. But they are not alone! To help and guide them they’re joined by an intimacy director, trained in the art of teaching people how to touch. Age recommendation for the show is 12+ -as it contains simulated sex (no nudity), strong language, and themes of a mature nature.

Dead Centre is an award-winning theatre company in Dublin, founded in 2012. Their work has premiered in Dublin, Vienna, Berlin, and Gothenburg, and toured the world including to the USA, Hong Kong, South Korea, Australia, France, Estonia, Holland, Romania, Italy, and UK. Dead Centre’s previous productions include ‘LIPPY’, ‘Chekhov’s First Play’, ‘Hamnet’, ‘Beckett’s Room’, ‘To Be a Machine (Version 1.0)’, and ‘To Be a Machine (Version 2.0)’.

‘Good Sex’ is the company's first presentation in Cork. Tickets for both productions are on sale now at corkmidsummer.com.

Cork Midsummer Festival will return from 12-23 June with another inspiring lineup of exciting theatre, dance, music, and art - including the annual Midsummer Parade, bringing Cork city centre to life with vibrant colour and sounds.
