Cork woman critical in Spain

Incredible support has been received by a Cork family whose daughter was seriously injured while holidaying in Spain two weeks ago.

Abby O'Sullivan (22) remains in a critical condition in intensive care at University Hospital de Torrevieja in Alicante after sustaining serious injuries as a result of an accident.

She is the daughter of well-known Cork city-based paramedic, Seán O’Sullivan.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds to help cover medical, travel, and accommodation costs as friends and family travel to be with Abby.

By time of going to print, the GoFundMe campaign has raised over €70,000.

Abby father Seán, mother Carole, sister Leah, and twin brother Seán Óg have travelled to be with her and will need to fly back and forth to maintain a constant presence by her side due to work constraints.

GoFundMe page organiser, Kevin Cronin, said: “Understandably there are serious medical, travel, and accommodation costs to be incurred by the family on top of this horrendous situation, so we are organising this fundraiser for our colleague who has spent almost 30 years helping the people of Cork in their time of need. We would now like to help Seán and his family during this difficult time.”

A Reddit user by the name of Silent-Survey5364 wrote on the Reddit Cork page: “If ye called an ambulance in Cork over the last nearly 30 years, chances are ye might have had Seán O'Sullivan out to help ye in your hour of need.

“Seanie's daughter had an accident abroad and is seriously injured, his colleagues have organised a GoFundMe to help support the O'Sullivan family. Can we try and help out someone who has helped the people of Cork so much through the years?”
