Festival season is here
It’s that time of the year again. Yes, festival season is upon us and while I have hung up my festival wellies for the foreseeable future, I have been known to frequent a festival or two in the past.
The mother of all festivals, Glastonbury, took place last weekend and having gone numerous times over the years, I can safely say it was one of the best experiences of my life and definitely one for the bucket list if you haven’t gone before.
If slumming it in a two-man tent isn’t your vibe they also do luxury glamping but I recommend the former option to get the authentic festival experience.
Instagram is flooded with festival outfit inspo and I have always found that while anything goes at a festival and particularly at Glastonbury there are always some items that you will see being worn year after year by festival goers and celebrities alike.
If you’re in a tizzy and don’t know what to pack for your festival experience then I would always recommend having a look at what Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller and radio presenter Jo Whiley are wearing.
These women are the embodiment of festival chic and all you need to do is add your wellies and a decent raincoat to any of their looks to make them the perfect festival outfit.
One item you will see in spades at a music festival or even a concert is a pair of denim cutoff shorts. I would avoid though if it’s particularly wet as denim takes ages to dry but if the weather is fine then pop on a pair of shorts and add a vintage sequin jacket over the top. It’s a simple but effective look and you’ll be instantly morphed into a disco ball when the lights hit the jacket.
Jo Whiley wore a green glittery shirt and shorts set from the resort collection from Oseree and it instantly made me want to go to a festival.
More dressy pieces like this are instantly made more festival ready with the right footwear - a pair of wellies or a good, thick soled boot.
I’ve also noticed a trend for wearing pretty summer dresses and giving them a festival make over.
Take Alexa Chung at Glastonbury 2024 for example, wearing a butter yellow satin and lace dress and styling it with black cowboy boots and plenty of layers including a cardigan and a trusty Barbour rain jacket.
She also added some shades which of course are essential for hiding those hungover eyes and maintaining an air of being fresh despite being on day three of the festival.
Accessories wise a bucket hat is absolutely essential and will be very necessary to hide the hair on the way home as there’s only so much dry shampoo can do.
When it comes to a bag, just wear a nylon crossbody that can hold all your essentials including sunscreen.
One thing to avoid and I have done it myself is a full-length lycra jumpsuit. Even though it may look great there is quite simply no way to easily disrobe in a gross portaloo at 3am after a few adult lemonades.
You have been warned!
