An emergence of art
An annual exhibition showcasing the work of student artists will open in the heart of Cork city tomorrow, Friday.
The EMERGE 2024 exhibition is hosted by Cork Craft and Design and will run until 28 August at the MTU Gallery No.46 on the Grand Parade.
The exhibition will feature 23 artists from MTU’s Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork College of FET Tramore Road Campus, Kinsale Campus, Douglas St Campus, and the West Cork College Skibbereen, a subsidiary of Cork College of Commerce.
Curated by visual artist Sarah Buckley, this year's exhibition marks 15 years of Cork Craft and Design’s Cork Craft Month.
“Taking inspiration from the work selected across the colleges, this exhibition is a celebration of nature and the body and the connection between the two.
“The theme ‘Body in Nature/ Nature in Body’ began to emerge very naturally, as I visited each of the students' end of year shows during May-June,” said Ms Buckley.
The aim of the exhibition is not only to display the students’ work but to embrace them as emerging creatives as part of the vibrant craft and design community in Cork.
Ms Buckley continued: “The immense passion and skill of each of the 23 artists cannot be denied within the work presented in EMERGE 2024. They want their viewer to be challenged and intrigued by their work, whether by the conceptual concerns they are exploring or the materials they have used.”
The exhibition will be open Monday to Friday from 11am to 4pm at the MTU Gallery No.46 Grand Parade.
