Cork folk favourite to launch tour

Cork’s own gentle rebel, Ger Wolfe, is about to release the second single from his latest album ahead of an upcoming national tour.

‘The Last Rose of Summer’, not to be confused with the Thomas Moore poem of the same name, is the second single from Wolfe’s ninth album, ‘The Morning Star’, released on his own indie label, Raggedy Records.

The track comes out tomorrow, Friday, and follows the album’s first single, ‘Hello Gorgeous’, a song written about “emerging from the darkness of a cocoon into the light of springtime”.

His new track deals with separation and loss while, as is often the case with Wolfe’s poetic and poignant work, always keeping a spark of hope and redemption within its verses.

Today's (Friday) release will be accompanied by a new video which can be seen on Wolfe’s YouTube channel.

With a career spanning three decades, Cork city-born Wolfe has remained a calming and constant presence in the Irish folk scene since the late '90s. His melodious songs and their thoughtful and vibrant words draw from the deep wells of traditional and contemporary Irish folk, all brought to life by his unmistakable voice and inimitable guitar playing.

The release of Wolfe’s newest track will coincide with the launch of his 2024 autumn tour with a show at Corkbeg Coffee in Whitegate, East Cork. The show will start at 7pm. Tickets cost €15 and are available from the café or via its Facebook page.

The tour will also see Wolfe play at the Bere Island Arts Festival in west Cork on the morning of 21 September before doing an evening show on the same day at the Drimoleague Singing Festival.

His other Cork dates are the Cork Folk Festival on 3 October in Cork city, and the West Cork Feelgood Festival in Skibbereen on 5 October.
