These boots are made for walking

I was on set styling an autumn winter fashion campaign this week and yes, I can confirm I am now ready to fully immerse myself in the new season.

Now I say this but I am heading to Italy next week so I may have to pause that ‘til I get back but once I do, I shall be styling my autumn wardrobe with gusto.

One thing I am very excited to wear again are my knee high boots. I have, for the longest time, been a hardcore ankle boot stan but in recent years I have gotten more and more into the knee high boot.

They instantly make an outfit chic and keep your legs warm even during the coldest of days when wearing a dress or skirt.

It also solves the problem of tricky hemlines. Sometimes an ankle boot can make the proportions a bit off.

This is where the knee high boot is just right. I have a black pair which are a no brainer when it comes to styling and I recommend to everyone, a cream pair of cowboy style boots and a tan suede pair but this season I would love to add a burgundy pair into the mix.

I styled such a pair from Office for the shoot and it just made each outfit more expensive looking.

If you are stuck for knee high boot outfit ideas, I would suggest one of the easiest looks to pull off is the knitted midi dress. It’s also a dress that can look casual and also can look a bit weird worn with ankle boots but once you pop the knee high boot underneath, you’ve instantly got a chic outfit, just add a gorgeous overcoat and boxy handbag to complete the look.

I also styled two silky slip skirts for the shoot, and I feel like I never stop going on about them but they are genuinely one of the most versatile and year round pieces you can have in your wardrobe. Style with a suede jacket and add the icing on the cake with some burgundy knee highs to up the style stakes. Keep the tones autumnal and pair soft and deep rose pinks with brown satin and burgundy.

Later in the season the knee high boot really comes into its own when paired with cosy layers and one of my favourite ways to wear this is by styling a denim dress or midi skirt with a luxe, cream chunky knit jumper or cardigan.

Knitwear, denim and suede or leather are the holy trinity of autumnal textures. I’ve also noticed a resurgence in denim tucked into knee high boots but as someone who wore this trend back in the early noughties this really doesn’t appeal to me but each to their own.

If this does seem like the sort of trend you could get on board with then you could always go a step further and wear a suit with your tailored trousers tucked in. I would make sure the boots in this case are very sharp and perhaps with a slightly pointed toe.

I particularly struggled for years to find suitable boots to accommodate my calves but thankfully retailers seem to have realised not many people have an absence of calf muscles so there’s a wealth of options available to us now.

So, find the perfect boot for you and get styling.
