Oscars wins for Rian and Kate

The red carpet was rolled out as there was not one but two wins for Cork at this year’s LauraLynn Oscars.

Rian Stack and Kate Lehane alongside their families were two of the six LauraLynn families on the red carpet at the Odeon Charlestown for one of the most magical events in the LauraLynn calendar.

Rian Stack has won Best Action Movie whilst Kate Lehane won Best Adventure Movie.

Rian played a starring role in his movie ‘The Cork Crusader’ where he goes on an epic journey to face off against his mischievous nemesis, Pongo. When an unexpected event disrupts the celebration of Rian's heroic deeds, he must use all his wit and courage to protect his city and those he loves. ‘The Cork Crusader’ is a thrilling and humorous adventure that highlights bravery, friendship, and the spirit of Cork.

While Kate took to the big screen for her premier of ‘The LooLahs’, a hilariously heart-warming journey of Kate and her family tells the story of how they navigate through a day filled with unexpected delays and a race against time.

Set against the backdrop of Cobh, this comedy showcases the family's resilience and creativity in dealing with everyday challenges, all while keeping their sense of humour intact. ‘The LooLahs’ is a feel-good movie that celebrates family bonds and the joy of living in the moment.

The LauraLynn Oscars is a digital storytelling initiative providing LauraLynn children with life-limiting conditions and their families a platform to create their own unique movie while supported by industry professional writers. It culminates in a glamorous red-carpet event, offering a once-in-lifetime movie premiere experience for the entire family.

Award-winning stage and screen writer Paul Walker who worked with Rian and his family said: “What a pleasure it was to work with Rian and his family. Rian had a vision, he knew what he wanted, and his family were with him all the way, kind, warm, open.

“All I did was put Rian’s wonderful imagination down on paper…and ‘The Cork Crusader’ was born. What a joy.”

Gavin Ryan, professional screenwriter who worked with Kate and her family said: “It is such a privilege to be part of this incredible event every year. I am always blown away by the creativity of the families who are dealing on a daily basis with really challenging circumstances with such courage and good humour.

“The event itself is so outrageous and ostentatious – it’s such an affirming celebration of the lives of these children and those who love them.”
