Grab a cuppa with the Lady Mayoress

Two different charities will be the beneficiaries of the Lady Mayoress’ coffee morning on Thursday.
The Lady Mayoress of Cork Saoirse Hurley launched it last week in aid of Marymount University Hospital & Hospice.
It will take place at Cork City Council Chambers on 26 September from 10am to 12pm.
The funds raised in the annual event are crucial in helping Marymount’s staff to deliver palliative care across Cork city, improving the experience of both patients and their families.
As well as supporting Marymount, a raffle on the day will also benefit Rainbow Club Cork, a support centre for young people with autism.
The Lord Mayoress said it was an honour to “be able to support Marymount University Hospital and Hospice”.
“There has been help from so many kind volunteers and I wish to thank all the performers and donors,” said the Lord Mayoress.
She also extended her gratitude to Cork City Council and thanked all those involved for making this year’s coffee morning “such a special event”.
While Marymount receives funding from the HSE that covers their core costs, the organisation still relies heavily on fundraisers to operate efficiently.
The organisation has seen costs relating to food and energy rise in recent years, expenses that donations have helped to cover.
A number of local businesses have pledged their support to the charities, donating cakes, pastries and scones to be sold on the day.
Other businesses donated prizes for the raffle, such as vouchers, and volunteered to help run the event.
Entry to the event is free, with donations encouraged. All proceeds from sales will go to Marymount. The event can be accessed from Anglesea Street.
For any businesses looking to come onboard to help, donations of cakes, scones, pastries, and such are still being accepted. To get involved, call 021-4924364.
