Council launch affordable homes in Carrigtwohill
Applications for a new affordable housing development in Cork county will open in less than two weeks.
The development of 23 three-bedroom A-rated family homes is in a new development called Baile Adaim, situated a short distance from Carrigtwohill village.
Constructed by Geaney Group, the houses will generally be available for first-time buyers who do not own a home, although a small number of exceptions apply, and Fresh Start Applicants.
Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr Joe Carroll said: “Cork County Council is delighted to announce the launch of this Affordable Housing Scheme in Carrigtwohill.
“The development at Baile Adaim is near a town that offers a host of local services, shops, schools and sports clubs, with excellent public transport links and ease of access to the major road networks. The provision of these houses will bring further affordable homes to the people of Cork.”
Through the scheme, purchasers will enter an affordable dwelling purchase arrangement with Cork County Council. Under this arrangement, the council will retain a percentage equity share in the dwelling, equal to the difference between the market value of the dwelling and the price paid by the purchaser, expressed as a percentage of the market value of the dwelling (minimum of 5%).
Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell said: “The launch of these 23 houses, provides another avenue to help us achieve our plans under the Government’s Housing for All national housing plan. To date over 200 houses have been made available under the affordable scheme, in seven different towns in county Cork.”
Applications will be accepted between 12 noon on 7 October and 12 noon on 28 October on corkcoco.ie.
